GPS and updates?

I'm happy with my Q50 and the built-in GPS is terrific!

My father in law still uses an older external Garmin GPS in his vehicle. I guess he hasn't updated it in a while in regards to new locations because a lot of it's map information is out of date. This proved to be awkward today as we all were invited to sister in law's new house in a new subdivision being built over the last 2 years.

My question: How does the Q50 receive geographic/map updates as they pertain to the GPS system, say in the case of new business or residential construction?

Thank you,
geo

Once every one or two years you'll receive a letter from Infiniti saying there is an update available for your GPS. The letter will offer a discount if you order it. You then go to the dealer, provide them the code you received when you placed the online or phone order, and they will install the new disc.

ADG is correct.

BTW I agree with you that the GPS on the Q is pretty darn good for an OEM system. The one in my merc is not as intuitive and doesnt look as nice.

Agreed - Infiniti does a good job on GPS. The Q uses the same system as the G and my G37 was more accurate than any other car or standalone GPS system with which I had any experience. My only nitpick is there seem to be a lot of "in one mile bear to the left" (for example) when all you really need to do is just go straight and not take an exit. But better that than confusing or incorrect directions.

Another added benefit to our system is that we have direct input buttons, i.e. Home, Destination, etc. On the e class you have to go to the screen menu which sucks

Overall I am totally happy with q50 GPS - it is called NUVI3590 and has more fun stuff than the one on E class and costs $200 instead of $1400 and traffic and maps updates are free

The only thing I dont like about the Navi is the traffic part seems to not really advise of alternate routes to speed up travel time even though it advises me of the heavy congestion ahead. It might have to do with the XM maybe
